Adult Summer Camp - Sheep to Shawl

Have you ever thought it would be fun to go back to camp? Interested in spending your holidays in beautiful Elliot Lake learning how to turn sheep fleece into a beautiful shawl

This may be for you.

Interested in a Memorable Vacation?

This may be for you. You’ll spend a week getting very familiar with the process of turning sheep (or Alpaca) fleece into a beautiful shawl. You will learn how to clean and prep a fleece, spin the fleece into yarn, dye the yarn and start knitting/ crocheting your new shawl. As an extra treat, we’ll be trying our hand at Wet Felting. All outdoors in the park overlooking beautiful Elliot Lake.

Along with our morning classes, we will also be offering a selection of optional afternoon activities showcasing Elliot Lake. Most of the options will be free, some will have a small fee. Options range from hikes, swimming, lectures, mini workshops to hiking, kayaking, exercise classes and a flight around Elliot Lake in a Float Plane.

So, bring your sunhat and suntan lotion and drop in to Elliot Lake for a week of fun and community.  We’re looking forward to welcoming you to our beautiful community.

The Morning Agenda

9:30 am – 1pm

Mon. July 21, 2025- Cleaning

Campers will get down and dirty learning how to ‘skirt’ and wash a dirty sheep fleece. While the washed fleece is drying, campers will start cleaning and carding fleece to prep for spinning on Tuesday. Campers will have a choice of using Sheep Fleece or Alpaca or a mix of both.

Tues. July 22, 2025 – Spinning

The day will start with a demonstration and class in spinning your carded fleece.  Campers will continue carding and will start spinning their fleece.

Wed July 23, 2025 -Dying

Lyn Gemmell (Shelridge Yarns) will be joining us and teach us how to dye our yarn/fleece. Campers will dye their own fibre in the park

Thursday July 24, 2025 – Felting

While we wait for your dyed yarn to fully dry, Kathy Jones will drop in and teach wet felting and needle felting. It’ll get messy fast.

Fri. July 25, 2025 – Starting your Shawl

By this point you should have prepared enough fiber to start your shawl. Campers will be invited to pick a shawl pattern of their choice and, along with needles provided, will start knitting their shawl.
